The village of Gosfield in north Essex is ‘twinned’ with a beautiful village called Chouzé-sur-Loire in the north-western area of France. The Twinning Association (which the French call ‘Association de Jumelage’), is all about building community, social and friendship links between our villages. This is mainly done through alternate year group exchange visits which take place over a long weekend. One year a group of English people will travel to France and stay in the homes of our French hosts and the following year, people from Chouzé-sur-Loire will come to stay with us.
Maybe you didn’t learn French at school or your French is extremely rusty? Don’t worry – communication never really seems to be a problem. It is amazing what good fun you can have making up new sign languages and you’ll also be amazed at how quickly you can pick up essential words, in the same way as our French friends quickly learn English ones! Gosfield Twinning Association has been running very successfully for over twenty years. Each year it holds a number of local social events to raise funds for the Association. This money is used on hospitality for our French guests and also to subsidise the travel expenses to France for our English members.
Membership of the Association costs just £12 per year, for a household and £20 per year for an organisation and is open to all residents of Gosfield and the surrounding area.
